A battalion of army troops arrived in the Malukus to assist in restoring order. This brings the troop total in the Malukas to 15 battalions (9,000 men.) Nearly 1200 people have died here, and over 2,000 were injured, in religious violence during the past year. In addition, nearly 9,000 buildings have been destroyed, including 122 churches and mosques.
