China's second unmanned flight test of a prototype for a manned spacecraft completed 108 orbits in early January. The Shenzhou-2 conducted several maneuvers in orbit, deploying large solar panels, then separated into two sections, one of which landed successfully on 16 January. The other section will remain in orbit for several weeks as an instrumented test platform.--Stephen V Cole
