November 26, 2007: The Multi-National Security Transition Command in Iraq is buying another sixty armored SUVs. Adding armor to SUVs creates a vehicle weighing over three tons, and requires upgraded brakes and suspension. These vehicles stop 7.62mm rifle and machine-gun bullets, and provide protection from explosions. There are thousands of these vehicles in Iraq, as many NGOs and civilians use them. They typically cost $100,000-150,000 each.
