Intelligence: The Navy Gang

Archives

November 22, 2010: Over the last three months, Turkey has arrested 40 officers, and some civilians working for the military, and charged them with espionage. Most of those arrested were in the navy. This espionage operation was apparently being done just for money. An immense quantity of secret military information was obtained by the "navy gang" and some of it was already passed on to foreign countries (none of them have been named). The information offered for sale included secret codes and details of weapons development projects. The freelance spies either stole the information at work, or from other officers who were not involved in the espionage. The gang was also planning to use prostitutes, and videos of these women meeting with high ranking officers, to obtain even more information via blackmail. Since Turkey is a member of NATO, some of these secrets are believed to be NATO secrets, which often includes specific data about other NATO armed forces.
